On the Road: Contest Rules and Winners

I'm riding to Denver tomorrow and Thursday from Austin. I'm doing a contest via facebook and twitter. Here are the rules.

When I leave Austin, I'll announce it via twitter and facebook updates. I'll stop for gas in small towns all along the way. As I stop, I will tweet and update what town I'm currently stopped in. Respond to the twitter or update and, if you can name the the NEXT town that will I stop in for gas, you win something. That's it. After that you'll have a better idea of how far I can go on one tank of gas, and that should give you a better idea of my next destination.

a few guidelines:
if multiple people guess it, I will send multiple prizes.
You have to name the actual town not the county.

*UPDATE*
8:22pm CST from Amarillo, TX

The ever-lovely Blake Atwood (twitter id: batwood) put together a map of the trip.

No one actually guessed it on the nose, but several people managed to name towns on the correct route. Out of the goodness of my heart, I'm going to give prizes to everyone who named a town I went through on this round. Those people are:

Sena Naas
Jami Schell
Anne-Therese Ens
Brad Whittington
Blake Atwood

If your name is on this list and you want me to link to you somewhere (blog, facebook, twitter, etc) email me and let me know! Also email me or message me on facebook anyway and send me your address. My email is in the top right of my blog.

I'm doing it all again tomorrow, so be ready to rock!

*UPDATE 2*

I know it took forever to update but here we go. The winners for round to (Amarillo to Denver) are:

Nancy Randise
Phil Parker
Sarah Combs

Tomorrow I'll be heading out again, and so far I have no idea what my route will be. I'm pretty much making it up as I go. Good luck!

Momo's Recap 3

Last night was a fun evening at Momo's. I was lucky enough to have the lovely Byer's family in town from Oklahoma. I actually met them about 5 or 6 years ago when Rhodes was playing the Farmer's Market in San Luis Obispo. It's been cool to keep in touch, and I was glad they were there.

Jarrod Dickenson showed up to leave flyers for his show on Independence Day. He and Seth Walker are playing a show together starting at 9:30pm. Check him out if you don't have any other plans. Also, he's got a blog.

Afterwords I stuck around for a bit to hear Amanda Pearcy. It was cool to hear her play in a context outside of the the last time I saw her at the Bugle Boy. It was also nice to hear her play with a full band! Sounded killer, and hopefully I'll see more of her around town.

Momo's Recap 2

Playing Momo's on Thursday nights has become a regular thing for me. Although it's rare to see more than 1 or 2 non-employee people during the time that I'm playing, I've still enjoyed it. I've been able to bring a few of my own friends, and it's become sort of a small personal concert each time.

Thanks to the father figure, I was even able to get some audio. The sound is a little low, but it gives you at least an idea.

What Does It Mean?

Today while driving I saw a pickup truck in front of me with this bumper sticker:

And this hanging on the rear view mirror:

It has to mean something, right? I just can't figure out what that is.

The Bugle Boy and Singer Songwriters

I always enjoy playing at the Bugle Boy. Since I've now played there twice it qualifies me as an expert, heh. Yesterday was a blast. I was playing as a part of the Showcase Sunday series where they do a songwriter competition.

The competition is fun, but the real heart of the day lies in the chance to hear and meet other musicians from the area, hear some great music, and enjoy to chance to play in a room of intently listening music lovers. It's equal parts amazing and flattering, and completely terrifying.

Yesterday had a smaller than usual lineup, but that didn't keep it from being full of talented and kind musicians. Below you can find the other 4 musicians that played in the afternoon and follow the links to hear some great songs.
